Why A Site Called Dentist Spartanburg?

Yes, I realize that is an odd name for a website, but there is a reason for choosing this particular combination of words.

You see, when I first came to Spartanburg, I needed a dentist.  I not only needed a good dental cleaning, but I also had some tooth decay.  I wanted an easy to find website so that when you typed in Dentist Spartanburg,  you could find information about general dentistry and local dental care. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a site like that so I decided to create my own in the public interest.

I’m actually not a dentist but an impartial consumer who has had some bad and good experiences with oral care.  Finding the right Spartanburg Dentist can be time consuming with all the choices you have, so I hope that the research information from the trials  and errors I’ve made and  placed here will help you.

Usually, the best place to start your search is with a family or general dentist. A general dentist is licensed to diagnose dental issues and oral conditions, develop treatment plans and provide certain treatments. When necessary, your local general and family dentists may refer you to a more specialized dental practitioner for oral surgery or cosmetic dentistry. Qualified dentists are designated as either DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) or DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine).

Whether you are new to the area or have been here for years, one of the best places to begin your search is a referral from friends, family, co-workers and even neighbors.  How close the dentist office is to your home, school or work and how soon they have an open appointment can be some of the most important factors.  Other factors that you need to find out are the professional dental societies and accredited dental school that the dentist attended, as well as whether he or she is a member of the American Dental Association.  A few important factors for me were whether the dentist was a specialist or not, whether he was available for emergency dental procedures after hours or on weekends, whether he was well liked and respected by his peers, and whether he had good reviews from other patients.  Also important was how experienced his dental hygienist was with taking dental x-rays, and how knowledgeable she was with recommending the proper toothbrush , floride toothpaste, and flossing techniques to use for general teeth cleaning for prevention of oral cavities and bad breath.

For many, the anxiety of going to the dentist is hard enough.  A  question you might ask yourself is how friendly is the dentist office staff and how comfortable do they make me feel? How clean is the waiting room and the exam room?  Is the dentist taking time to discuss the dental procedures I need and answer my questions? Does the dentist offer sedation dentistry?

Dental visits can be expensive.  The best way to save money in the long run is to brush, floss, get regular professional cleanings and checkups and don’t get any dental treatments you don’t need or really want.  Make sure you check with the dentist office staff to see if they accept your dental insurance plan or a prepaid dental plan before making an appointment. And, don’t be afraid to ask for  cost estimates of the work you’ll be having done so that there will be no surprises.

Over a lifetime, many will need pediatric dentistry,  pediatric orthodontics, wisdom teeth extraction, braces, root canal, implant dentistry, oral disease treatment, dentures, and  treatment for gum disease.  Others may decide to get teeth whitening treatments, veneers, and cosmetic surgery.

Remember, you only have one set of permanent teeth so care, prevention, and treatment are very important!

Hopefully, as this site, Dentist Spartanburg,  continues to grow, I will be providing more articles and videos to assist you in getting all of your dental care questions answered and to help you decide your best choice of a dentist in the  Spartanburg area for you and your family. Please tell your friends and family to join us here and we welcome your comments and suggestions.  If you are a Spartanburg Dentist and interested in advertising on this site, please contact us.

Dentist Spartanburg wants you to get the best dental care possible.

At least twice a year I go to my dentist in Spartanburg SC for a regular cleaning and exam to keep my teeth in the best condition possible. It’s very important to see your dentist on a regular basis because, after all, your teeth have to last you a lifetime. When I first moved to this area, I searched for Spartanburg Dentist in the yellow pages, but that search didn’t give me everything I needed to know. First of all I wanted to make sure he or she was a member of the American Dental Association, and I wanted him or her to be someone I could get an appointment with easily in the event I had dental emergencies to come up in the future. That’s why I decided to put together this website, Dentist Spartanburg, so that you can have all that information at your fingertips. I wanted to ask those questions for you to make sure you get the best care possible.

Dentist Visit

The staff at my dentist’s office treats me like royalty from the minute I walk in. I must admit that going to a dentist in Spartanburg SC is not my favorite thing to do, but everyone there is friendly and anxious to make sure my experience is a good one. The dental assistant cleans my teeth and gives me advice on how to keep them in topnotch shape between visits by doing simple things such as brushing after meals and flossing. Then she takes xrays so that my dentist can see any problems that may be looming or any new cavities that may have developed since my last visit. She makes note of anything that needs attention, such as bleeding gums, broken or cracked teeth, dental abscesses, or dislodged dental crowns. My dentist is then able to tell me what needs to be done immediately, if anything. He welcomes any questions I may have, and he’s eager to share with me any new technology that may have come along since my last visit. We’ve discussed everything from veneers to teeth whitening to replacing some of my old fillings. Some of these things have sounded scary to me, but my dentist is someone I can trust and someone who will shoot straight with me about my dental needs. Everyone should have a dentist like mine – one who makes you feel comfortable about your choices.

I personally have some dental implants, and I like for my dentist to make sure everything is working properly with them. I have confidence in his diagnosis, so I know how important it is to find a dentist that you can trust and one who suits your needs. Whether you have tooth decay, tooth pain, an exposed area that is sensitive, gum pain, or a horrible toothache, Dentist Spartanburg will be able to send you in the right direction for your pain relief. Spartanburg dentists can relieve your anxiety if you’re in need of a root canal. Keeping regular dental appointments is the smart thing to do, so this website is the best place to start.

Tooth whitening is gaining popularity for most of the population yet a small percentage still worry because of the possible side effects it may bring to a person. Worry no more because researches and studies proves that both bleaching and tooth whitening methods do not have any adverse effect on either your gums or teeth. The only minimal side effect it may have is tooth sensitivity.

Tooth sensitivity is a condition of the mouth wherein a person experiences a pinch of pain whenever it gets exposed to extremely hot or extremely cold types of food like ice cream and coffee. Some individual who underwent tooth whitening procedures or uses tooth whitening products experience this but it normally stops after 48 hours or the moment the medication is stopped.

Nevertheless, if you experience tooth sensitivity here are few things you may do:

- Choose a tooth paste with potassium nitrate because this formulation helps soothe the tooth nerve endings.
- Use a brush with soft bristles or in any case a brush specially fashioned for sensitive teeth.
- Consult your dentist regarding this matter so he may provide you a tooth product with fluoride. Fluoride re-mineralizes your teeth and can help stop the pain caused by sensitive teeth.
- If the pain from tooth sensitivity continues, try stopping the treatment within24 hours to allow your teeth to get vital nutrients before proceeding with the treatment once again.

Not every one is advised to undergo teeth whitening. People who have gum diseases, teeth with worn enamel, existing sensitive teeth prior to the tooth whitening treatment and those with tooth cavities are not advised to undergo this method because it may only result to further complications. People with dental work in their front teeth and tooth-colored crowns or caps are also discouraged to use tooth whitening products because it may have adverse effects on the earlier dental procedures done on his teeth.  Article by W Parlaman

Do you have a problem with bad breath?  Dentist Spartanburg wants to share this information to increase fresh breath!

Ever wanted to whiten your teeth? A recent publication in the Journal of American Dental Association demonstrated that whitening gels when combined with a tray-type system can improve oral health and reduce plaque and bacteria. (1) Thus teeth whitening has the added benefit of eliminating the microorganisms that contribute to bad breath – nice smile, nice breath. See www.rockstarwhite.net for more information.

If you have received a request from a loved one to improve the freshness of your breath and you had no idea that you had mal-odor, you are not alone. Most people cannot tell when they have bad breath and managing halitosis can be complicated. The good news is that 80% of all cases of bad breath are caused by microorganisms in the mouth and when one lowers the numbers of those organisms one will greatly freshen ones breath. Proper tooth and tongue brushing and flossing are key components. Additionally, using products that continue to keep those microorganisms away can give longer lasting results.

The delivery method of the whitening gel is important. Whitening Trays have a tremendous added value to the whitening process by allowing the gel close proximity and coverage of the material to the front and back of the teeth. This cannot be achieved with paint-on systems. Thus most paint-on systems work on only mildly stained teeth and will not greatly impact oral micro flora. However, the tray type systems have now been shown to reduce plaque and decrease gingivitis thus helping the 80% of us with bad breath originating from bacteria found in our mouths.

What happens if you are one of the 20% where mal-odor is coming from a different source other than the mouth? You will need to be evaluated by a medical doctor to diagnose conditions such as: sinus, lung, tonsil infections and stomach ailments should be evaluated.  By: Dr. D Hunt

Here at Dentist Spartanburg, we want to give you some basic information about cosmetic dentistry.

Are misaligned teeth a problem for you? Have they been stopping you from flashing a smile? Many people suffer from teeth problems that destroy their confidence and prevent them from smiling their entire lives. Imagine if you could just get your teeth fixed in a matter of hours, wouldn’t it then be great to get that perfectly gorgeous smile so quickly and conveniently?

Of course it would, and there is a solution to give you the smile you’ve always wanted! It is called cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry is any dental procedure that enhances the appearance and function of the teeth. There are various reasons why people undergo cosmetic dentistry. Some decide on these dental procedures to look younger, while others just simply want to fix their badly aligned teeth. Currently, cosmetic dentistry includes a wide array of options that attempt to improve the teeth in some way. With ongoing research, more convenient and less expensive options are continuously being introduced to the market.

If you have been having problems with your teeth and wish to get them fixed, read through our most popular cosmetic dentistry procedures to find out which among them best suits your needs.

Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures

Braces

Perhaps braces are the most popular and commonly sought cosmetic dental option in the world. They are worn by children, teens and adults. Braces align the teeth and close the gaps in between them. They are brackets glued to the front of the teeth and linked together by an archwire that pressures the teeth to align. Nowadays, one can choose modern braces over the traditional ones as they are made from clear plastic and hence are invisible. You can also request them to be personalized according to your color of choice.

Whitening

Whitening is another cosmetic dental option sought by those looking for ways to enhance the whiteness of their teeth. It makes use of peroxide-based materials that can cleanse the teeth from any discolorations. There are two types of whitening systems. One is the in-home whitening system which involves a custom-fitted tray lined with bleaching gel and worn at home for up to two hours daily. And the other is called the in-office system or chairside bleaching. In this system, the patient is being treated at the office of the dentist, who places gel directly on the patient’s teeth and then exposes the teeth to a laser light that oxidizes stains or discolorations. In a matter of one hour, teeth can become significantly white after the treatment.

Dental Implants

If your teeth have been injured and extremely damaged, dental implants may be used as an option. Dental implants are artificial teeth that highly resemble natural teeth. They are implanted after the damaged teeth have been removed. Furthermore, they can also be implanted in place of missing teeth.

Veneers

Commonly used when a tooth has been chipped, they support the restoration of the original teeth. Unlike dental implants, veneers do not need to remove the original injured teeth but instead are placed in front of the damaged teeth to make to them look natural again. Veneers are made out of a thin sheet of custom-made porcelain wafers and can be quite an expensive option for correcting the appearance of the teeth.  By: Dr. K. Flood

Dental Care is a Must!  This is some great info to make sure you are brushing your teeth properly.

It is clear to see that a lot of people today prefer to use an electric toothbrush over a manual toothbrush, but is this really going to help people with their dental hygiene? Are there any scientific reasons why using an  electric brush is going to yield more positive results that using your regular brush?

Well, the truth is that using an electric toothbrush is not really any better than brushing your teeth really. The problem, however, arises when people do not brush their teeth properly with a manual brush, and this is where using an electric version tends to be the better option.

There are certainly a number of benefits of using an electric toothbrush rather than your manual version. One of the main benefits is the fact that your electric brush is going to have a number of different cleaning settings that you are able to put it on. Different cleaning motions such as oscillating, rotary, and pulsating allow the user to gain a great all-around clean.

In addition to this the amount of effort that you need to go to when you clean your teeth is going to be reduced significantly. Whilst it is not particularly difficult brush your teeth manually, some people will find the relevant movements more difficult than others. Therefore these people will find it a lot easier using an electric toothbrush where you simply need to hold the toothbrush in position using the correct amount of pressure. You are even able to get certain electric brushes that will be able to tell you went too much pressure is being applied, and these are therefore fantastic at cleaning your teeth more efficiently.

If you do use a manual toothbrush and you are using it in the correct way, then there is no reason why an electric version should be any more efficient. As long as you are applying the right amount of pressure and brushing your teeth in the correct motion, you should be able to guarantee that your teeth are being cleaned as extensively as they should be.

Whichever option you choose to take, it is important that you commit to the right schedule. We are all supposed to brush our teeth twice a day at the very least – once in the morning, at once in the evening before settling into bed.

Whatever sort of toothbrush you use, if you are keeping your schedule and brushing your teeth for a couple of minutes on each occasion, you should be able to guarantee that your dental hygiene is perfectly fine.  By: Garry Hunton
